In the toolbox for ReTooling buildings environments and people that we engage with we have a number of Tools . 1 They include Sustainable materials that we have experience in using . Materials that have intrinsic benefits in use toward transition to sustainability in a pressured world. . 2 They include manufacturers that we discover and enjoy working with. 3 There are Objects for deployment 4 The Toolbox also contains methods of deployment of the objects . Deployment that uncovers and develops new narrative and better dwelling. = 1+ 2+ 3 +4 = A methodology for creative practice that sits in parallel to the processes of Architecture and Making . A small contribution toward an emerging methodology for retooling. An Example = In 2013 we created a "Show float" as a tool for an HLF funded project called " Fair Glasgow " It was created from a truck and adapted objects relevant to Scotland's commonly disregarded "Show People" Community. A tool for investigating the missing or overlooked percentage of Glasgow's population that have been recycling Glasgow's squandered Industrial legacy. This Community Tool was taken on the road around the annual cycle of Scottish Fairs . Showfolk's kids took ownership of the process of "building up " fitting the "tilt"and recording in and around the Showfloat. They took it took it to one of their schools and once there, talked about bullying and prejudice The Show Float gave presence and as a mobile Tool it enabled the recording of :- Specifics geographies, vulnerabilities, opportunities + commodities. It unearthed facts - Like some of Glasgow's Tramcars were saved from being burned by the Corporation of Glasgow in the late 1960s and their Curves were employed in the making of what we enjoy as Waltzer Cars... The show float took two such cars as furniture . The show float tool became a repository for what could be termed "Intangible cultural Heritage" ICH It made a statement about transience and challenged perceptions. Thankyou to the kids and ThornTree primary school. There are new Tools in discussion. Next Up - Gdansk
