+ Creative Remediation - Glen Buck - South Ayrshire.
The practice undertook a remediation exercise for Scottish Coal that looked at long term Site Planning in and around the legacy of Open Cast Mining in South Ayrshire. Our work included new Dwellings, Eco tourism, a visitor Center.and landscaping.
The Landscape had been entirely remodelled following Open Cast mining throughout the 20th Century and the inhabitants were entirely gone.
In the heart of that quite soleless man made Landscape we were asked to focus on the site of old Glenbuck House, its walled garden and remnants of woodland . These being the only remaining signs of human inhabitation and in fact any ecosystem, appeared as Oasis.
Lets hope Fracking never does this to the Landscape anywhere in our Country .
Standing in Glenbuck gives you a huge sense of unease and a feeling that all beneath you is about to collapse.
We tried in this exercise to create something out of very little and to breathe a little life into a place that once was. a place.
